The Coalition for Climate Careers strives to create an inclusive, thriving green economy workforce in King County through collaboration among community organizations, employers, labor, and local government. Partnership with King County, The Port of Seattle, and The City of Seattle, focusing on policy, funding, and community engagement to support green job growth and quality training.
The Coalition for Climate Careers (referred to as C3) is a strategic collaboration among public and private organizations and frontline communities, dedicated to establishing an inclusive and prosperous green workforce in King County. We prioritize frontline communities and workers affected by the green economy transition, providing policy guidance, funding for public and private workforce partnerships, promoting green career opportunities, and fostering cross-community collaboration.
The Coalition for Climate Careers envisions a future where local government collaborates with frontline communities, community-based organizations, labor unions, businesses, and educational institutions to create pathways for these communities in King County to participate fully in the green economy. As defined by the King County Green Jobs strategy, frontline communities are disproportionately affected by climate change due to historical inequities, with limited resources to adapt.
Together, C3 aims to promote equitable investment from both public and private sectors, addressing the underrepresentation of women and BIPOC communities in crucial green economy sectors. This effort will also strive to build a workforce that reflects the local demographics while mitigating climate impacts in King County. By leveraging community voices, C3 seeks to expand access to sustainable green and climate-focused careers with living wages, empowering frontline community residents to address climate challenges in their communities.
The Coalition for Climate Careers (C3) is the result of a six-month-long scoping effort initiated by liaisons from King County, the City of Seattle, and the Port of Seattle. A steering committee, comprising representatives from government agencies, academia, labor unions, community-based organizations, employers, and training programs, was responsible for developing the foundational work and structure of the Regional Coalition. This committee also recommended the name and operational framework for C3. Thank you to all of the following organizations for their participation in standing up this coalition.
